Sawan Joshi, a young versatile identification in the field of music in Nepal was born in Lalitpur, a city of art in 1977 July 17. At the tender age of fourteen, he got the opportunity to study as a disciple under Mr. Mohan Prashad Joshi(one of the icon in the field of classical music in Nepal) . At beginning he started learning vocal then later Sitar and had finished bachelor degree in Sitar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti Board, Alahabad India. In 2000, he went to Japan for his further study where he did lots of activities to introduce Nepali music culture. In 2003 he released his solo sitar album "Swotantra" from monsoonrecord(Japan) and East Meets west(Thamel, Nepal) . He has numerous experiences of concerts in Nepal, Japan and Taiwan with various international artists. Not only as a musician but also as a scholar he has been studying about the development of classical music in Nepal. He holds master degree in musicology from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 2006. He has been awarded Doctor of Philosophy(PH.D) in musicology by Tokyo National University Of Fine Arts and Music in 2010. Currently, he is working as music reseacher in the same university.
